Guzmania Variada — Flaming Tropical Bromeliad
🌿 Colorful tropical flowering • 🌤 Soft light • 💧 Moderate watering • 🪴 Easy care
The Guzmania Variada is a spectacular tropical bromeliad, known for its flaming flower with shades of orange, red, or yellow. With its elegant vertical posture and rosette foliage, it instantly brings warmth and exoticism to urban interiors.
Easy to live with and undemanding, it only requires soft light and a few well-measured waterings. Ideal for beginners as well as urban jungle enthusiasts who want a graphic and colorful plant without constraints.
Exposure & Placement
The Guzmania Variada appreciates natural but filtered light. It fears direct sunlight, which could burn its foliage and fade its colorful bract. It will particularly enjoy living spaces where the light is soft and regular.
- Exposure: indirect light, bright partial shade, without direct rays.
- Ideal: living room, bedroom, office, or bright bathroom in the city.
- Temperature: between 18 and 24 °C, protected from cold drafts.
- Substrate: light and draining potting soil, such as a mix for green or epiphytic plants.
Verdeia tip: place it near an east or north-facing window to keep intense colors without risking burns.
Watering & Care
- Watering: moderate, when the surface of the potting soil begins to dry.
- Rosette: pour a small amount of water into the heart of the plant and renew it regularly.
- Drainage: essential to avoid water stagnation in the pot.
- Humidity: it appreciates a slightly humid atmosphere; a light mister can be useful in summer.
- Fertilizer: a very light supply of liquid fertilizer for green plants once a month in spring and summer.
In winter, reduce watering and keep only the heart and soil barely moist: the Guzmania prefers slight water shortage to excess.
Decor Ideas & Plant Combinations
With its vertical flower and ribbon-like leaves, the Guzmania Variada instantly draws the eye. It is perfect for giving a colorful tropical accent to an urban interior, even in a small space.
- To combine with: Calathea, Philodendron, or Ficus to create a jungle corner contrasting green foliage and colorful touch.
- Ideal pot: decorative pot in matte ceramic, terracotta, or beige stoneware to highlight the orange bract.
- Ambiance: perfect on an entry console, side table, or shelf in a bright living room.
Place it slightly elevated, on a side table or shelf, so its flowering is clearly visible in the room.
Verdeia Tips
- Preferably use water at room temperature, low in lime, to avoid spots on the foliage.
- Avoid leaving stagnant water permanently in the saucer: empty the excess after watering.
- Turn the pot occasionally so the plant grows evenly towards the light.
- When the colorful bract fades, leave the plant in place: it can produce young shoots at the base.
- Install it in a decorative pot suitable for its size to showcase it in your urban jungle.
