Guzmania ‘Ostara’ — Tropical Bromeliad
🌤️ Indirect light / Partial shade • 💧 Moderate watering • 🪴 Easy care • 🌸 Bright foliage and bracts
The Guzmania ‘Ostara’ is a spectacular tropical plant belonging to the bromeliad family. Its shiny green foliage forms an elegant rosette at the heart of which emerges a colorful inflorescence, with bright shades of red, orange, or pink, instantly brightening any interior.
Delivered in Ø12 cm for an approximate height of 45 cm, this Guzmania adapts perfectly to indoor life. Easy to care for and graphic, it brings an exotic and luminous touch to your urban jungle.
Exposure & location
The Guzmania ‘Ostara’ enjoys bright light without direct sun. It also grows very well in partial shade, in a living room, a bright bathroom, or an office. Avoid harsh sun that could fade its colorful bracts.
- Exposure: indirect light or bright partial shade.
- Ideal: table, console, east- or north-facing windowsill.
- Temperature: between 18 and 26 °C, protected from cold drafts.
- Substrate: orchid potting mix or a light, well-draining mix (bark, coconut fiber, perlite).
Verdeia tip: avoid full sun — filtered light will prolong the color of its floral bract.
Watering & care
- Frequency: moderate — water when the substrate begins to dry on the surface.
- Tip: pour a little non-calcareous water directly into the central rosette.
- Humidity: prefers a slightly humid atmosphere — mist the foliage in summer.
- Fertilizer: once a month, diluted in watering water, only in spring/summer.
- Pruning: remove faded bracts once flowering is finished.
- Repotting: unnecessary every year, as Guzmania grows in a rosette and produces young offsets.
Always leave a little water in the heart of the rosette and empty it every 10 days to avoid stagnation.
Decor ideas & plant combinations
Graphic and colorful, the Guzmania ‘Ostara’ is ideal for adding verticality and a tropical note to your interior. Its long-lasting flowering immediately draws the eye in a bright room.
- To combine with: Calathea, Maranta, or Anthurium for a harmonious tropical atmosphere.
- Ideal pot: matte ceramic decorative pot or natural fiber pot.
- Ambiance: perfect for an urban jungle or contemporary decor.
Combine it with other bromeliads of different colors for an exotic and luminous effect.
Verdeia tips
- Place the Guzmania in light without direct sun to preserve its colors.
- Use only soft or filtered water to avoid lime deposits.
- Water in the central rosette rather than in the substrate.
- Cut the faded bract once it loses its color; new offsets will appear.
- Lightly mist the foliage in summer for an optimal tropical atmosphere.
